Please refer to your schedule for class times. We highly recommend that you attend classes at the rate of 2-3 times a week. We also recommend that you attend on consistent days and times each week to make your attendance with our school part of your weekly schedule. Parents dropping off children should do so 10 minutes prior to the class and pick them up within 10 minutes of class ending. The school becomes very busy around class time and we cannot be responsible for watching unattended children.

Viewing Classes

Parents are encouraged to watch classes. We only ask that you respect the class by remaining quiet. If you are bring younger children with you we ask that you keep a good eye on them.

Family Membership

Once you are enrolled in a regular program the next family receives a 33% of his/her tuition and the third member a 66% discount, fourth member free. We recommend that they start with the three lesson trial program to make their transition to the regular program a smooth one. To get started please call or see a staff member to make an appointment.

The Belts

Students of the Korean Martial Art Tang Soo Do show their progress in the art by the color of the belt they wear. Each color belt is a step toward the goal of Black Belt. The progression towards black belt goes as follows: White, Orange, Green, Brown, Red, and Blue. Requirements for each belt differ for kids and adults.

Testing

There is a predetermined time interval between each belt level. This allows the student to practice and refine their required material. Testing is done every three months and test times are posted on the activity board. Students must T.I.P. (training incentive program) Test once a month before going on to their next belt level. The purpose of TIP testing is to ensure that each student is retaining his/her material. If for any reason you miss TIP or Belt testing, please see your instructor to arrange a make-up time so as to not delay your progress. There is a $45 test fee for teens and adults, a $35 test fee for Tigers, Dragons and all kids. There is no test fee for our TIP test.

Payment

Students who budget their program will receive a booklet from ASF International. If for some reason you do not receive a booklet within your first three weeks, please see the program director. All payment should be made by mail or you visit http://www.myasfaccount.com and make your payments online. Please allow five days for your mail to reach them. If you have a problem with your account call ASF at 1-800-525-8967. If they cannot resolve it, Please see the program director.

Dress

Student dress consists of a traditional Karate uniform plus a belt. A Valentin Karate t-shirt may be substituted for the uniform top during certain weeks in the summer. Students should not wear rings, watches, necklaces, earrings or any sort of jewelry in class. We also recommend that you leave all valuables at home. Your Karate uniform should always be kept clean and never wash your belt. If everyone keeps themselves neat, clean & odor free it makes for a more enjoyable karate environment.

Diet

It is recommended that students become more conscious of their diet and nutrition. It is a good idea to eat complex carbohydrate foods for increased energy. The best protein sources come from low fat foods such as poultry and fish. Drink lots of water to replace what you lose during training. Try to avoid candy bars, soft drinks and other high sugar foods. Establish good eating habits whenever possible. You’ll feel better if you do.

Activity Board

Valentin Karate is a very active Martial Arts school. Students and parents should look at the activity board weekly for the posting of test times, Black Belt Training Club classes or any functions that may be going on for that week. Also be sure to grab The Black Belt News letter and monthly activity calendar at the beginning of each month.

Birthday Parties

The school is available for birthday parties on Saturday’s and certain Sunday’s. If you would like to more information and prices please contact the school.

Member Referral Program

Any students who recommends a friend to our school and that friend enroll on a regular program they will receive a gift of gratitude. Please refer to the Pass a Friend flyer.

Sparring

Students are allowed to start sparring after four weeks of training. Sparring is an excellent way to develop reflexes, timing and gives you a chance to experiment with your karate techniques in a controlled atmosphere. An instructor will supervise all sparring. Due to mandatory insurance regulations, students who participate in sparring must wear a mouth piece, hand, foot & head gear. Males must wear a groin cup. This equipment is available in the pro shop.

 S.W.A.T. & S.T.O.R.M.

Students Working At Teaching (SWAT) & Student Team Of Role Models (STORM)

Consists of students learning and applying teaching concepts. It is important that a Black Belt be able to relay the theories and concepts of World Tang Soo Do training. SWAT classes train a student to do just that. Adult Blue belts are required to have 40 hours of teaching time in the classroom to achieve their Black Belt. A Child Blue belt must have 20 hours. Students must be a brown belt or higher to enter SWAT classes. Anyone interested in joining SWAT and becoming an assistant instructor may see the Chief or Head Instructors. STORM members are picked by an instructor’s recommendations. Students must then supply a letter of recommendation from a school teacher and parent detailing leadership skills.

Black Belt Club

The Black Belt Club is a special two year membership for those students with long term goals. Members receive a discounted membership, four extra classes each month, special extracurricular event and a special patch. They will also be allowed to wear a cool Black & White uniform. If you are dedicated to the martial arts and have a goal of Black Belt, see the program director to convert your membership to that of the Black Belt Training Club.

Extra Help

If for any reason you fall behind and need some help, see anyone of the instructors and schedule a time. There is no charge for extra help sessions. If you are interested in a private class with an instructor, this will cost $60 for a 50 min session.

Tournament Competition

Tournaments we feel would be worthwhile attending will be posted on our bulletin board. Any students having questions or wanting more information on Local tournaments should see the Instructors.

WORLD KARATE KIDS: A PARENTS' GUIDE

(3 and 4 year olds)

(5 and 6 year olds)

INSTRUCTOR'S MISSION

Our mission is to provide young children with the positive influence of the martial arts.  This specially created program is a total learning activity that stresses education of values and character.

We pledge to help young people learn patience, concentration, humility, self-discipline, self-control, and respect.  We intend to enhance the successful lives of children through both personal development and achievement.

WHAT CHILDREN CAN LEARN IN THIS PROGRAM

This program is designed to develop a positive character in today's children by utilizing strict guidelines and a fun atmosphere at the same time.

Respect

One of the basic premises of the martial arts is respect.  We teach respect first, for themselves and all around them, and then we teach technique.

Self-discipline

While we use the theory of an oriental warrior's disciplinary training, it is geared more towards teaching children self-control as their minds and bodies mature.

Coordination

Through our routine technical training, a child's physical and mental coordination will improve.

Behavior

The discipline and rules of conduct in our classes, along with the bowing, answering "yes, sir/ma'am" and other attitude requirements, help shape the child's behavior in a positive direction.

Confidence

Children discover self-value and pride through our training with the attitude of "he can do it; she can do it; I can do it."

Patience

Many children have gotten used to instant gratification common in our hi-tech world.  Our classes will help to bring out their inner calmness and endurance.  As they experience achievement through the progression of our belt system, they will learn to pursue goals with an "always finish what you start" attitude.

Concentration

Developing powers of concentration through our training is assisted by our "all out effort" which must be performed by the child in every class.  Children learn the three keys of concentration - focus mind, focus eyes, focus bodies.  This is one of the most important benefits of our program. These powers of concentration are transferred into a child's academic performance.

Responsibility

Children in our program learn that you must not only do the right thing, but you must do the right thing for the right reason.   It's easy to do something because you fear punishment.  Personal responsibility means that our children must choose the correct path on their own and accept the consequences for incorrect action.

Cooperation

Group training with other children teaches the skill of teamwork.  Teamwork skills are valuable for use throughout the course of life.

Better Health

A formal training program helps to develop a child's body, inside and out.  Better mental and physical health improves all other stress of a child's life, such as eating and sleeping habits.

Grow With Sense of Justice

By utilizing our warrior's honor codes, children will mature and grow with a sense of fairness.  Our instructors will enforce the right way and wrong way throughout our lessons.
