SET YOUR STUDENT UP FOR SUCCESS
In order to provide the best opportunity to succeed in martial arts practice in discipline is essential. We recommend attending classes two to three times a week consistently.
Parents should drop off their children 10 minutes prior to the beginning of each class and pick them up within 10 minutes after the class has ended. Parents MUST walk all children 12 & under into the studio. You are also encouraged to watch your children’s classes as long as you and any other viewers remain quiet.
DRESS CODE
A traditional Karate uniform plus belt is the standard for student attire. During certain weeks in the summer students may substitute a Valentin t-shirt for their uniform top. No watches, jewelry, etc. should be worn and all students are required to regularly launder their uniforms (but not their belts) to ensure cleanliness and comfort essential to enjoying classes.
BELTS & TESTING
Progress within Tang Soo Do is shown by the color of belts the students wear starting at white and moving to orange, green, brown, red and blue and finally black, with different requirements to achieve each level.
Progression through the levels is accomplished through testing every three months. Scheduled test times are posted on the activity board which also lists the fees. Those looking to advance through the belts must also participate in our free, monthly Training Incentive Program or TIP to ensure they are retaining the necessary knowledge as they progress. Alternate test times may be arranged if any TIP or belt testing is missed.
DIET
Physical activity is only one portion of overall health. We encourage students to be aware of their nutrition and eat complex carbohydrate foods for increased energy and consume low fat proteins such as poultry and fish. Replacing fluids after any activity is essential and avoiding soft drinks and candies filled with sugar will keep you healthy and feeling your best.
SPARRING
After four weeks of training students may begin sparring to practice the skills they've learned in class in a controlled, supervised atmosphere with an instructor monitoring their actions. Insurance requires all students wear a mouthpiece; hand, foot and head gear and dictates all males must also wear a groin cup. All of these items are available in our pro shop for sale.
